I grew up fishing, learning from my dad and grandpa.  My grandpa was also a good hunter.  I wish he was still around to teach me now that I've moved up here.  I'm really excited about the fishing opportunities up here, but looking forward to learning to hunt as well.  I'm working on getting my Sportsman's package (fishing/hunting licenses, and tags) but I have zero hunting experience.
Any tips for a newbie as I get started?

I'd find someone who would help show you the ropes with some bigger game, but you could always start small and work your way up.  I started pheasant and duck hunting and was planning on moving up from there, but never pulled the trigger.

Good luck Chad and keep us updated on how it's going!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Chad, if it can fly, float or walk........I've hunted it.  Haven't used my M1903 06 or my old Model 12 since I moved south, but someday I will return.  I like Tom's advice, find someone to buddy up with.  "Keep the wind in your face and the sun to your back"   ;)

Going to take the hunter safety class soon and was talking with my uncle last night about it.
He's pretty experienced and might even have a good deal on a .243 Winchester for me.
