Well, after seeing the old, cheaper $39 canister smokers jump to over $100, I needed to upgrade.  I wasn't in the market for a pellet smoker, but really wanted a stick burner and found one that seemed to fit the price range I was looking for and had many great reviews.

The order was dropped off and the package said it was 160 pounds.  I couldn't imagine how it would be that heavy for the price, but I almost slipped a disc trying to pick it up... It was every bit of of that weight.

Part of me was thinking it would be the thin sheet metal covering just merely from the price itself, but this was heavy plate steel and from my initial assessment, very well built.
It only took about an hour to put together as I didn't want to bolt some part in backwards, but it was pretty easy for the most part.

Tonight I'm going to cook clams casino and/or clam chowder, but this weekend, I'm going to smoke up the rainbow trout and some tuna steaks.  If all goes well, I might do a tri-tip on Sunday, or just wait until next week to do that.

I'll be sure to keep you posted...

Have some apricot wood up at my sisters. I'll grab it next time I go up.

Very cool setup 8) I have not got a pellet smoker yet either because part of cooking or smoking with a fire box is putting in the time and effort to learn how it cooks with different types of wood or charcoal, ( babysitting is part of the game ) Can't wait to see the results of this rig 8)

Cool setup, can't wait to see the results!

Looks like I'll probably wait until next week to use the smoker.  I want to make sure I get a good few seasonings on it to make it the best I can and last as long as I hope it does.

Got the outdoor Kitchen all set up.  I seasoned the smoker today...

and now have the following at my disposal.

  • Gas Grill
  • Charcoal Grill
  • Smoker
  • Turkey Fryer
  • Fish fryer
  • Cast Iron Griddle

That should give me the ability to cook a lot of stuff!

My outdoor cooking station has one issue.  I'm always using a headlamp and or phone to check the food on the grill and soon to be smoker...  Well I solved that issue and now "Let There Be Light!"
