Well, it's that time of year to start prepping for Winter :o October is when we usually start to burn the wood stove and start warming the house on the cooler evenings. For 23 years, every October I have called the Chimney Sweep and he cleans not only our stove but a couple neighbors and a few family members as well 8) Cheap insurance and piece of mind against a chimney fire ;) He starts on top and removes and cleans the cap and the stainless steel pipe inside the Chimney.

Right on time as usual 8)

I don't do ladders anymore, he is way up there :)

Nice view of my neighbor from up there 8)

After the cleanse from the top, he moves to the clean-out and gets busy

This is what causes chimney fires.....CREOSOTE !!!

This is the tool that he attaches to his drill, no metal, more like weed eater string ;)
;)

Now to clean the wood stove, Mongo was supervising  ;D

All clean, now I get to clean the glass :)

Cozy warm now, Mongo happy 8)

If you have a fireplace you should have it cleaned on a regular basis, stay safe out there 8)

Tim,

That warms your entire house?

How does it do that?

It puts out a lot of heat. It has a fan on the back that blows air across the top of the stove and the ceiling fans move air as well. Not as quick as forced air furnace but way cheaper and keeps me chasing firewood ;D

Haven't heard of it being more exonomical, that's pretty sick.

I used wood as a sole source of heat for close to 40 years.  If you're in an area without natural gas (I never had natural gas until now), heating with wood is far cheaper than heating with propane.

Man, you put your wood stove to good use.  Our fireplace only gets the "Fire Log" treatment since my wife hates the smell of camp fire... which is the total opposite of me.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

I usually burn about 2 cords of wood from October to March or April, it gets a workout :)  Camp fire smell should be bottled and sold as cologne  ;D
