Launched out about 0900 from Huntington. The usual osprey nest had two peepers in the morning and one when I came back.

Today's charter group.

I'm pretty sure those two gulls are residents to the ramp. I know I've seen that squatty girl every time I've been here the last 6 months at least. I normally end up having a conversation with her. Gotta find good names for them.

Awesome weather forecast and the wind never came up. Bird action all day. Tons of bait around. Water temp started at 53º out of the gate and ended the day at 61º. At that rate the mahi should be back by mid afternoon tomorrow....

Wanted to try the LC on a 3 way rig with a 12oz sinker and slow troll it over stones in 70-90'. First drop and I was on.

Coughed up the key...

And another threw up a little squid. Didn't see any squid beds on the FF all day though. Got me excited for seabass...

Caught 4 turds and a short calico in maybe 15 minutes. Wee! Threw back one of the turds cuz it was 14.25" or so and I don't fk with that. Bite slowed a bit so I moved off of that spot and tried another. Landed another sandie and a good sized brown.

Slowed there, so carried on. Ended up hitting half a dozen other spots. The LA reef wasn't holding jack besides some bait on the surface, but the other stones at least had good marks, just lock jaw.

Went back to my original spot and put 4 more turds in the boat in about 30 minutes, including this 20" jackpot turd.

Damn, should have stayed here all day! Good to scout things out and see the whole picture, though. Put the spot into perspective. I noticed the water temps were hopping around wildly in a 3 degree range, which seems a bit absurd. I notice since upgrading my battery, the FF's temp updates a lot quicker.

By the end of the day I could see Santa Barbara Island off one side of Catalina, and Clemente off the other. Easily the best vis I've seen around Huntington.

I swear Clemente is there....

Tomorrow, fish tacos will be back on the menu!

Ended with:
8 turds
1 calico
1 brown rockfish

Nicely done Jeremy!  It's been a long time since I got my boat salty.  This just might be the motivation I need.

20" turd roller is a sweet one!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Name the seagulls Steve and Tom. Those two are always together.

Steve's been awarded The Brewery Customer of the Year, at the downtown establishment.  I'm not allowed in these fictitious parts of town, so Steve found Aja to replace me.

Just because you live somewhere without a downtown doesn't mean I do.
