Anyone ever use one for surf fishing? I am interested in picking up another conventional for surf fishing for rays and sharks and found a great deal for a 30 size.

I have two Penn Fathom 30's, but just got them and have not put them to the yest yet, but my initial assessment is overwhelming positive. Pinoyfisher uses the Fathom 40 and loves it.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Good choice of a reel though I've never used one.

I'll do 65# PP and 100yd topshot of 40#mono. Definitely not overkill for bats, besides, at that price why not? I also use the 40 for my jig stick slinging iron.

I have 2 Fathom 40's for less than $300!!! Seriously, that's an f'ing deal!
