I'm going to make a Prehistoric Soul "Record Board for the website.  This includes all species caught and posted here on the website/forum.  It could be in pounds and ounces, or length.  If you happen to know or remember certain ones, please post it here.  The list will be audited throughout the process since that's a lot of remembering to do.  This can be from Boat, Yak, Board, Rocks, Bay and surf.  Anything goes as long as it was posted here.

Thanks for your help!

Fun idea!

Any rules that should be adopted, like hooked inside the mouth? Lengths measured at time of catch with tape, vs against a rod? Outlaws all my proposed surf catches if no tape at the time.

Off the top of my head some of the biggest I've seen:

BSP - anybody beat my 15.5"?
YFC - i got a 17.5" this year
Spotfin -
Corbina -
Halibut - probably you Tom?

Bat Ray -
Butterfly Ray -
Eagle Ray -
Leopard Shark -
Smoothhound -
Shovelnose -
Banded Shovelnose -
Thornback - i got a nice one around '19, '20. Can't remember if I only posted it to SCSF at the time though...
7gill -
Soupfin -
[omit white]

Sand Bass -
Kelp Bass -
Spotted Bass -

Bonito -
Barracuda -
White Seabass -
Yellowtail -

BFT - chris had a 110ish
Swordfish - has anyone but chris gotten one?
Mahi - biggest I remember is my 24lbs posted
Striped Marlin - you measure yours?
YFT -

I started by classifying into relatively obvious groups above but with so many, now should just plug it into an excel sheet with name, length, weight columns at least.

BFT - I got a 210#
Marlin - Weighed one was 118#  (Big one was only guesstimated at 140# by the Marlin Tournament Capt.)
Yellowtail - As far as I know, it's my 43#
Soupfin- I'll have to check, but I think Dave (Where's My Beer) and I tied, but seem to remember he might have got me by a 1/2 inch at 79".
Bat Ray - I think it was Chris' 62" Bat off Coronado.  Mine was only 60".
Chris posted his Sword I believe at 210-220???

I don't remember what the Bonito, Cuda, or WSB was.  There were a few, but I don't recall any bruisers.

I'm going to do some searches on the forum to fill in the blanks, but at worst we can leave some of them open and fill as we go.

Hmmm... Some fish so far with no pictures or pictures with no lengths.  I'll have to consider the rules.  Ray Chavez's friend got a 7.1# spotfin in SAMO, but no picture.

In 2015:
I caught a 34# Halibut
Eric H got an 18" Spotty (I think a few people got 18" spotties)
Ray Chavez with a 108.5" Sevengill

Need to revisit this more.

I actually think you should do 2 land-based and boat. Certain species that can be caught either way, land-based anglers would be severely limited. The 2 biggest I've posted were my 35.5" halibut from the beach and a 23" calico from the beach.

Big halibut from the beach has always been a certain special thing. Yeah, maybe stickies at the top of the Shore Based and Boat/PWC for respective record boards?

A Shore Based and Watercraft Based record is a good idea as well as rules for each category. I have some ideas and will get them on paper hopefully this week for your peer review.
