Well with all these great reports recently with people catching nice sized Sharks and Rays, Jerry and I thought it would be a good idea to get out on Friday night and do some night fishing.

Arrived to low surf and not to much wind. Jerry was rigged with a 11 foot Daiwa Sealine with 30# test. I was rigged with Penn Battle and cant remember the line I used.

Jerry was gonna post this, but had some problems with his photobucket. So, I said I would post it for him.

Jerry pins on a nice fresh Mac head and on his second cast with the current pulling pretty strong to the north. I start to hear his line pulling out pretty quickly. Drag was set loose. Jerry runs over grabs the rod and sets the hook. Fish on! Jerry fought this Bat for a good half hour and was pretty exhausted after finally beaching his prize. Nice job Jerry on the Bat.

Here's the pics. Anyone have an idea what this Bat Ray weighed? I could barely lift it. lol   Any guesses?

Me trying to help get her back in the surf after the pics.
My face was all red trying to lift the beast. I have a new found respect for all of you who do this on a regular basis.

Couldn't get a good picture of the taped Bat, but she was 52.5.to 53 Wingspan. Nice Friday night out on the sand. Jerry (Sharkinthedark) nice fishing with you and let's do it again and maybe get some of the toothy kind!

Thanks for reading and good luck out there.

Until next tide.

His 54" he caught yesterday was the most preggo I've ever seen. being the one who dragged her to and from the water I'd say she was close to 140+lbs with the babies. Flipping her over to remove the hook was fun B)

Joel, that bat was probably 150lbs. if I had to guess. Dragging those bats back into the water is work out for sure.  ;)

I'm thinking more like 120-140lbs.

OK Joel.... you and Jerry kicked some bat ass, but what the heck is this all about?  You forgot you were using 15 pound test that you hunt for halibut with?  LOL

Nicely done guys.  The bats were definitely out in force this weekend!  8)
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Tom, thanks for that laugh. I was using Jerry's setup. Penn Battle on a seven foot rod with 50# Spiderwire. That's why I'm not catching anything yet. Ill get my setup going here and make a few adjustments so I can get on board here. =)
