Motivated by Steve's recent post we packed the car and headed out Weds eve.
Duplicating their Tuesday night adventure would be tough, but had high hopes as the weather was laying down towards sunset.

Rigged up, cast out, and sat down with a bottle of Soju. Magic hour was upon us, and conditions were gorgeous. No clouds, barely any wind, and mellow seas.

Some time passes and I see my rod bounce, then bounce again. Pick it up and hold for a minute, then set it back down in the holder. ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz CLICKER!!
Gave a good tug and the fish is heading due West, but suddenly changes course and heads straight back to the beach. I'm reeling as fast as I can when another course change spits the hook.  >:(

Not 20 seconds later as I'm reeling up, look over and see Paul's holding his rod. "You ON?" He lifts the rod tip and bendo! ... Great .. there's MY shark  >:(
Worked him pretty good but we got it to shore and Paul had his first Soupfin on his new Trap Rig set up. MAN! They get stinky fast. Took some pics and gave a healthy release.

We both cast out and sit back with our juice, talking about the great fight he just had.
Paul takes this opportunity to educate me on how to catch sharks.  ::) >:(

Another half hour passes with various crushed and stolen baits, when my rod goes screaming again. No doubt it was another Soupfin. Gave a deeper hook set this time and *POP* ... unbuttoned again!! FUUUGGGGG!!!!!
That's now 5 straight Soups I've missed. I actually believe smoke was coming out of my ears when Paul gave me more tips on how to catch a fish  >:( >:(

Eventually 3rd time's a charm and I stick my first Soup as well. Ghad these fights are so fun. Taped at close to 70". Few pics and good release.
On the way home there was debate over who's shark was bigger. LOL ... We got a good angle on his pic, but no tape ...  ;D ;D

I can tell by the pics your fish was bigger.

Been waiting to see this report since I woke up to texts telling me it happened.

Congrats on finally getting one on the beach. Break offs and spit hooks suck.

Excellent Dave!  I've been waiting for this all morning!

You guys just love rubbing it in while I'm down...  It's so hard to keep myself from pushing my recovery period to a shorter term!

Make sure you don't push yourself beyond your limits. Last thing you want is to head back in for another go, or end up with pain for the rest of your life. I narrowly avoided surgery a few years ago for the same thing. Fortunately, my herniated disk ended up healing after 6 months of physical therapy. I still get minor aches in my back and some very minor sciatica occasionally.

Damn, nice going Dave!!!!!! I'm hoping tonight goes our way!
