I am sooooooooo close to pulling the trigger on this!

Problem is, I won't have much left for a rod to put it on ::)
Is there a decent rod out there that this will work well on but is on the cheap side?
I've been searching craigslist forever for a conventional surf rod but no luck  :(

Depends on what you can spend on the rod.

Daiwa Sealine: model SLS1102HFB       11ft heavy action rated 20-50lb and 2-8 oz
$69 with free shipping on amazon.

Okuma longitude: model LC-C-1202H-1 12ft heavy 20-40lb 3-8oz (my backup rod)
$77 with free shipping on amazon.

Penn Prevail: model    PRESF2040C12   12ft heavy 20-40lb 4-10 oz (my primary rod with a sealine 40 and fathom 30)
$98 with free shipping on amazon.

If you can swing the $100 get the Penn. By far the best of the lot IMO. In terms of weight, casting ability, etc, I feel it's easily twice the rod as the other 2.

Great options, thank you!
Counting my pennys  :D

Based on my experience and that of a couple of others who have a Prevail, I'd stay away from it. Mine broke on a cast where the 2 pieces meet. At first I thought it may have been overloaded (sinker and bait), but I was actually well within its rating. It also happened to someone else in the same manner.

The Sealine is a beast, but it can handle the abuse! Remember, most on here is using 4-6oz sinkers + the weight of the bait which can sometimes be just as heavy as the sinker. Them casting really puts a load on the rod! The weaker ones will snap.

I started off with a Sealine and loved it. Once my budget increased, I was able to move to rods that were strong, but also more and made from better components. What's your budget?

Thanks for the advice!
Budget? What budget? LOL, pretty much zero right now after buying the reel, but I'm checking the garage to see what I can sell.

I'd go with the Sealine if your budget is pretty limited. You could even call Turners, as they carry them, to see if they have a specific model in stock.

I'm seeing a lot more reviews of the Okuma longitude but not much on the Sealine.
Have you used or seen the longitude at all?  I like the cork grips on it better, but the sealine seems a little more robust.

Binh (1morecast) and I both have owned one, didn't like it, too similar to a broom handle.

Daiwa emcast 11'3 and 12'  are pretty sweet casting rods, I only throw 8 and bait and it handles that no problem. I have a prevail and its a tad light for my taste, but when I'm going after leos it's my favorite for 5oz and a chunk of perch

Hey thanks for the advice guys!
Looks like a new water pump for my car is going to push the new rod to the back seat  >:(
I'll keep checking the classifieds and maybe I'll get lucky!

What do you guys think of this one?

That's a decent one for the price range, especially a starter rod. Is there one rated a little heavier?

Nope, that's the heaviest.
There's a 10' but it's rated at 1-6 oz.

The one you originally listed should be good.

My Penn Prevail busted on a cast first time out with it. Wasn't overloaded, just a bad blank and tackle direct admitted there have been problems.

They upgraded me to the Battalion. Great rod and no problems with it all. My only complaint was the reel seat was too far away from the butt for my liking, but a hacksaw fixed that.

Think they retail at around $120

According to A penn rep, the prevail and battalion are the same blanks. The battalion just had fugi guides and reel seats.
